“Yablychak” is the first novel from the “Mensk Trilogy” by Siarhiej Piasetski, a renowned Polish-Belarusian prose writer.

With his characteristic vividness, the author portrays the secretive and mystery-filled criminal underworld of Mensk at the beginning of the 20th century.

The events of the novel unfold in early spring 1918, when the First World War transformed Mensk into a frontline city. Drawn by hopes of quick profit, thieves, prostitutes, and swindlers from across Europe and the former Russian Empire gathered there.

Combining humor and tragedy, the novel explores both the crimes and the inner world of its characters, captivating readers from the very first pages and maintaining suspense until the final sentence.
