When Jack Torrance takes a job as the winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, it seems like a chance to rebuild his life.
He moves into the isolated mountain hotel with his wife Wendy and young son Danny, hoping for a fresh start and time to focus on his writing.
But as winter closes in and the hotel becomes cut off from the outside world, sinister forces begin to emerge. Only Danny, a five-year-old boy gifted with the psychic ability known as “the shining,” can sense the darkness hidden within the Overlook’s long and terrifying history.
First published in 1977, The Shining became one of Stephen King’s most celebrated novels and was adapted for the screen by Stanley Kubrick in 1980.
