“The Last Book of Mr. A.” is a novel by acclaimed Belarusian writer Alhierd Bacharevič.

“I envy children. They are allowed to believe in fairy tales, while we are not. Adults love fairy tales more than anything in the world, but people are ashamed to admit it,” says the protagonist of Bacharevič’s new novel.

To repay a debt to a creditor, a struggling writer begins composing fairy tales — and for an entire month reads them aloud every evening to a group of shameless adults. Day by day, the storyteller’s imaginary world becomes increasingly real, while the reality surrounding the characters slowly transforms into a fairy tale itself, until the line between fantasy and everyday life completely disappears.

In “The Last Book of Mr. A.”, Bacharevič once again opens the doors to his unique literary universe — a world that feels deceptively familiar from ordinary life, yet remains unsettling, magical, surreal, and deeply тревожным.

First published in June 2020, the novel quickly became a true bestseller within just a few months.
