The Ex-Son is Saša Filipienka’s debut novel. It follows a young man who is injured in the tragic Nemiga stampede and spends ten years in a coma. During those years, his grandmother cares for him and tries to observe the world through his eyes so she can tell him everything when he finally wakes up.
As she recounts the changes that took place around them, the novel becomes a reflection on memory, hope, and a society that remained dormant while history moved forward. Through a deeply personal story, Filipienka explores what happens when both people and countries awaken to a changed reality.
