“Silva rerum” — in Latin “forest of things,” a genre popular among the Lithuanian nobility in the 16th–18th centuries, a “family book” that was passed down from generation to generation, where important life events were recorded. The action of the first part takes place in 1659–1667 in Vilnius and in a distant Samogitian manor, the estate of the noble Narwoysz family.

The cycle of historical novels “Silva rerum” by Doctor of Art History Kristina Sabaliauskaitė is one of the most significant events in Lithuanian literature of recent decades, which has received attention and recognition in Lithuania and abroad. In Latvia, the “Silva rerum” novels were selected for the list of 100 most beloved books of Latvians of all time. After publication in Poland, the first novel of the cycle became a bestseller, and in 2016 it reached the finals of the prestigious Central European literary prize “Angelus.” Lithuanian readers, choosing one hundred books of the century in 2018, awarded the novel cycle “Silva rerum” third place.

"A brilliantly written, Márquez-esque novel set in 17th-century Lithuania that at the same time reminds us that the history of Central Europe is our shared narrative" (Olga Tokarczuk)

"Kristina Sabaliauskaitė is today one of the most significant authors of the historical novel." (Flaran Georgescu, Le Monde)
