"From Panikoŭka to Šajba: A Guide to Miensk's Party Scene in the '90s" is not just a book, but a true guide to the spirit and atmosphere of that era. Authors Pavał Vałatovi and Alaksiej Kavaloŭ have compiled eyewitness accounts, rare photos, and vivid stories to show Miensk from a different angle—the party scene, the club scene, and the “golden age.” This book takes you back to street squares, basement clubs, and legendary venues where the unique cultural scene of the ’90s was born.

The book "From Panikoŭka to Šajba: A Guide to Party Miensk of the '90s" (authors: Pavał Vałatovič, Alaksiej Kavaloŭ) is a unique guide to the informal Miensk of the '90s. It features unique eyewitness accounts of events from the recent past. The book features a wealth of illustrative material.
"We’ve divided our book into three sections: Party Miensk, Club Miensk, and ‘Golden’ Miensk. The main criterion for this classification was the amount of money our protagonists had in their pockets.
The "Party Miensk" section tells the story of people who spent their free time on park benches and on the steps of underground crossings, sometimes without even a subway token in their pockets.
The “Miensk Clubbing” section tells the story of the attempt to establish a clubbing tradition in Miensk in the 90s and why it (in the opinion of many) turned out to be not very successful. To party in clubs, you needed at least some minimal funds—enough to buy an admission ticket and a bottle of beer at the bar.
The third part, “Golden Miensk,” is dedicated to venues whose names were on everyone’s lips, but which only a select few could afford to visit, since a night of fun cost as much as the average annual salary of an ordinary Miensk resident.
I dream that someday all tourists will be given this book to read upon entering Minsk. And then walking the streets of Miensk will become much more interesting." (Pavał Vałatovič)
