“Ejfaryja” is a novel by Maryja Parkhimčyk that blends satire, surrealism, mystery, and dystopian fiction.
Journalist Peter Wordsworth and dance ensemble artistic director Kaciaryna Fiodaraŭna arrive on an IT island in the center of Europe. He hopes to create a striking story about a gloomy republic, while she plans to successfully perform at the harvest festival.
But almost immediately, everything begins falling apart. The protagonists are forced through a series of strange trials seemingly orchestrated by someone on the island itself. Soon, however, the people controlling their fate also become part of the chaos. Truth and fiction gradually intertwine until no one can clearly distinguish between them anymore.
Together with the characters of “Ejfaryja”, readers will attend the jubilee of a national artist, visit a mental health center, explore a luxurious castle, watch a puppet performance, flee from forest predators, and uncover the mystery behind the ever-present monuments to the Leader.
Blending absurdity, tension, and dark humor, “Ejfaryja” creates a disturbing yet vivid world balancing between political satire and surreal adventure.
